Trying to keep pace with the ever-changing landscape of ministry opportunities, LAM with its board of directors has been adding branches of focus and effort for nearly 25 years. As we continue to navigate toward the horizon God has planned for our future, we are once again entering a new era for Latin American Ministry. With the consideration of planting a cowboy-focused church here at the J Bar S, to be called The Gathering, we felt that a name change for the entire ministry was needed. Inviting Kyle and Brittney Lawley to join our team was the first step toward making the vision for a local ministry a reality. We were looking for a name under which everything we do locally and internationally could reside. It had to be a name that connects all of our efforts, without losing sight of our mission.
Out of hours of conversation and consideration emerged a name that boldly captured the heartbeat of what Pam and I have spent a quarter-century doing and allows those who will serve alongside us to expand in the future. The name 1930 Ministries has been selected. It is taken from the statement in Luke 19:30, "...you will find a colt tied, loose him and bring him to me." This verse has been the pounding pulse for us for two decades or more. Out of that verse was formed the message, Fit To Be Tied and out of that verse comes the concept we have operated our lives on for more than forty-five years, "If anyone asks why - Tell them 'The Lord has need of him." All things ministerial are birthed out of a tying-and-loosing process that only complete surrender produces.
OUR WORK IN LATIN AMERICA CONTINUES. The feeding centers, well drilling, motorcycles, building investments, etc, have even intensified with the name change. Next month, you will begin seeing a new look for the ministry and Facebook updates will begin reflecting our new name and look. Nothing else about our work or focus has changed; it is being done under a new name. In the meantime, I invite you to visit our new website at www.1930ministries.org. In the short term, if you give online, you can continue using the existing website. The new donation platform is ready, and you can either move your donations to the new website or continue using the old one for another month. The old website will eventually be retired as we shift to 1930 Ministries. For now please continue writing checks to Latin American Ministry or LAM.
Please join us in prayer concerning The Gathering. We have already received numerous commitments from pastors, congregations, and businesses who want to be help and be involved in the process, both physically and financially. We are breaking ground on a building early in June and throughout the summer and fall we will meet with our leadership team. We expect to begin services sometime in the fall. We believe that if we build it, people will come.
As we transition from Latin American Ministry (LAM) to 1930 Ministries, we wanted to provide a simple overview of how the different ministry branches work together. While the name is changing our mission remains the same. We are committed to life change accompanied by spiritual, and physical health for people at home and abroad. We understand that Jesus is the answer, but you are also a part of that answer. Thank you for all you do for His Kingdom.
